How to use ChatGPT for competitor analysis. With live data from Outmano.

Ask ChatGPT about a competitor and it answers from what it read months ago. Connect Outmano and OpenAI's agent reads your competitors' current pricing, feature gaps, reviews, SEO moves, and battlecards instead. Here is how to set it up with Codex, which comes with your ChatGPT plan, or with the OpenAI API.

Short answer

Add your competitors to Outmano and create an MCP key. Then add Outmano to Codex, OpenAI's agent included with ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, or to the OpenAI API's MCP tool. Ask about your competitors in plain words and it answers from tracked data. Connectors inside the ChatGPT app need OAuth sign-in, which Outmano does not support yet.

What pricing changes did my competitors make this month?

Codex · used Outmano

Two changes. Acme raised Starter from $99 to $120 (+21%) and moved SSO down from Enterprise to Pro. Rivalco added a usage-based tier below its per-seat plans. Your Pro plan now undercuts both by 18 to 24%.

Step by step

Set up ChatGPT as your competitor analyst.

  1. 1

    Add your competitors to Outmano.

    Sign up and add three to eight direct rivals. Outmano starts tracking their pricing, features, roadmap, reviews, news, blog, and SEO every day and keeps the full history, so the answers cover what changed and when.

  2. 2

    Create an MCP key.

    In Outmano, open Integrations → MCP and create a key. It is shown once, it can only read data, and you can revoke it at any time.

  3. 3

    Add Outmano to Codex.

    Codex is OpenAI's agent and signs in with your ChatGPT account. Add Outmano to its config file. You need Node.js installed for the npx bridge.

    Codex (~/.codex/config.toml)

    [mcp_servers.outmano]
    command = "npx"
    args = ["-y", "mcp-remote",
      "https://outmano.com/mcp",
      "--header", "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"]

    Connectors inside the ChatGPT app authenticate with OAuth sign-in, which Outmano does not offer yet, so use Codex or the API for now.

  4. 4

    Ask in plain words.

    Ask what you want to know. Codex picks the right Outmano tool and answers from tracked data, with dates and before and after detail.

    "Use Outmano to list my competitors' pricing changes this month and tell me which one matters most for our Pro plan."

  5. 5

    Turn the answer into something your team uses.

    Ask for the format you need: a pricing memo, a battlecard update, a Slack post, or a slide outline. The facts come from Outmano and ChatGPT's writing does the rest.

    "Turn this into a one-page pricing memo for our leadership team, with a recommendation at the top."

  6. 6

    Build it into your own app (developers).

    Add Outmano as a remote MCP tool in the OpenAI Responses API. Your own assistant, Slack bot, or internal tool can then answer competitor questions from the same data.

      "server_label": "outmano",

      "require_approval": "never" }

Safe to hand to ChatGPT

Read-only, workspace-scoped, revocable.

ChatGPT can read Outmano data, never change it. Every tool is read-only and tells the client so. A key is scoped to your workspace, so it only reads intelligence for the competitors you track. Keys are stored hashed, shown once, and revoked instantly from Integrations → MCP. The MCP server page has setup for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex too.

Questions? Answers.

Yes, but on its own it answers from training data and web pages it happens to find. Connect Outmano to Codex or the OpenAI API and it reads tracked pricing changes, feature gaps, roadmap changes, reviews, news, SEO data, and battlecards for every competitor you follow.

Not yet. Custom connectors in the ChatGPT app sign in with OAuth, and Outmano's MCP server uses an API key today. Use Codex, which comes with ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, or the OpenAI API.

Create a key in Outmano under Integrations → MCP, then add an outmano entry to ~/.codex/config.toml that runs mcp-remote with https://outmano.com/mcp and the header Authorization: Bearer followed by your key. Restart Codex and ask about your competitors.

Twelve read-only tools: the activity feed, weekly action plans, pricing changes, feature gaps, the feature matrix, roadmap changes, SEO standings, competitor blog posts, reviews, Hacker News and Reddit mentions, news and funding, and sales battlecards.

Outmano's programmatic access is its MCP server at https://outmano.com/mcp, authenticated with an API key you create in the app. The OpenAI Responses API can call it as a remote MCP tool.

No. Every Outmano MCP tool is read-only and tells the client so. A key can only read intelligence for the competitors your workspace tracks, and you can revoke it at any time.
