What is feature parity?
Feature parity is matching another product’s capabilities checklist — either a competitor’s, or your own product’s across platforms (the web app versus its mobile version). Reaching parity is a common requirement in enterprise evaluations and migrations, where a missing checkbox can veto an otherwise better product.
As a strategy, chasing parity is a trap: it hands your roadmap to the competitor, guarantees you ship their features later than they do, and ignores that buyers decide on a handful of capabilities rather than the full grid. The useful posture is selective — track rivals’ releases so parity gaps are a known, deliberate choice, close the few that actually block deals, and spend the rest of the roadmap on differentiation.
