A battlecard starts going stale the week after you write it.
Outmano watches each competitor's pricing, features, reviews, and news, and keeps a live battlecard for every rival you track: always current, ready to share with your whole sales team.
How to build a battle card reps actually use
- One competitor per card. A card that covers three rivals helps against none of them. Duplicate this template for each competitor that keeps showing up in deals.
- Be honest about their strengths. Reps stop trusting a card the first time it calls a real strength a weakness. Concede what is true, then reframe or change the ground.
- Turn weaknesses into landmines. A weakness you state is a claim; a weakness the buyer discovers is a fact. Write discovery questions, not attack lines.
- Script objections as call and response. Write the objection in the buyer's own words, then a two-sentence answer a rep can deliver from memory.
- Keep kill points to three, with proof. Numbers, named customers, and quotes beat a list of ten adjectives.
- Log every win and loss. The last row is your win/loss analysis: review it monthly and promote the plays that keep working into your kill points.
Not sure which rivals deserve a card? Map who you're actually up against with the Competitor Finder, then size them up side by side with the Competitor Analysis Generator. Sales battlecard FAQ
- What is a sales battlecard?
- A sales battlecard is a one-page cheat sheet that tells reps how to win against one specific competitor: what the rival sells, where they are strong, where they are weak, and exactly what to say when a buyer brings them up. Good battlecards are short, honest about the competitor's strengths, and updated whenever the competitor changes.
- What should a battle card template include?
- Seven sections: a company snapshot, pricing and packaging, the competitor's real strengths, weaknesses and landmines, objection handling, kill points with proof, and running win/loss notes. This template covers each section twice, side by side: what is true about the competitor, and the counter your rep uses.
- What are landmines in competitive selling?
- Landmines are discovery questions you plant early in a deal so the buyer discovers a competitor's weakness on their own. If the rival gates SSO to its enterprise tier, you ask the buyer how they plan to roll out single sign-on. A gap the buyer finds themselves lands harder than any claim you could make about it.
- What is a win/loss analysis template?
- A win/loss analysis template records every competitive deal: who you were up against, the outcome, and the reason the buyer gave. The last row of this battlecard is a running win/loss log per competitor. Review it monthly and promote the plays that keep working into your kill points and objection responses.
- Is this battlecard generator really free? Do I need an account?
- Yes, and no account. The card works entirely in your browser and autosaves locally. We only ask for an email when you export the finished battlecard as a CSV or PDF.
