What is competitive advantage?
A competitive advantage is whatever allows a company to consistently outperform its rivals — winning more customers, charging more, or operating more cheaply. Classic sources include cost leadership, differentiation, network effects, proprietary data, brand, and distribution.
The key test is durability: an advantage competitors can copy in a quarter is a feature, not an advantage. Durable advantages compound over time and are the foundation of a competitive moat.
