What is positioning statement?

A positioning statement is a short internal statement — usually one or two sentences — that captures who your product is for, what category it is in, the key benefit it delivers, and why it is better than the alternatives. A common format: “For [audience] who [need], [product] is a [category] that [benefit], unlike [alternative] which [limitation].”

It is a decision-making tool, not customer-facing copy. Marketing, sales, and product all check their work against it, which keeps messaging consistent as the team grows.
