How to read the feature gap matrix
Find the capabilities your competitors ship and you don't — and cut the rows that tell you nothing.
Outmano reads each competitor’s product and pricing pages, extracts the capabilities they advertise, and maps them onto your own feature catalog. The result is the feature matrix on Compare → Features: one row per capability, one column per company.
Reading the matrix
Your column comes first. Rivals are ordered by how much of your feature set they share, so the columns read left to right from “most like us” to “least like us”. Where two rivals overlap with you equally, the broader catalog sorts first.
Rows are grouped by category, in your catalog’s own order.
What counts as a gap
A row is flagged as a gap when it’s a capability you don’t have and at least half of the aligned rivals do. “Aligned” matters: only competitors whose extracted features have actually been mapped onto your catalog are counted, because an unmapped rival would look like it lacks everything and quietly understate how common a feature is.
Rows where everyone has a feature, or nobody does, are marked uniform. They’re true but useless when you’re hunting for differences, so you can filter them out.
Category radars
Alongside the matrix, a radar chart plots coverage by category — what share of each category’s features you have, against the rivals’ average. Tabs switch between the average and each individually aligned rival, so you can see whether a category gap is the whole field or one competitor.
The radar needs at least three categories in your catalog to draw a meaningful shape; below that it’s hidden rather than misleading.
If the matrix is empty
The matrix needs your own feature catalog, which is built from your own product’s tracked pages. If it’s blank, check that your own product is tracked and that its site is reachable — see Setting up your workspace.
Individual rivals can also be missing from the coverage comparison until their features have been mapped onto the catalog. They’ll still appear in the matrix; they just don’t count toward gap detection or the radar until alignment has run.
Where else features show up
- Each competitor has a Features tab with their raw extracted list.
- Feature changes raise entries in the change feed and can be routed to Slack alerts.
- Feature coverage is one of the ranked angles in Compare.
